We are happy to announce the launch of the third exhibition in the Crafts Council OnviewOnline series entitled “The Yellow Wallpaper” curated by Tom Gallant. Using the novella “The Yellow Wallpaper” as a framework for the exhibition, Gallant showcases examples of his work and inspiration. His signature pieces are intricate and delicate paper cuttings. Gallant also mixes craft practices and digital media to produce installation video pieces.
As with the previous two exhibitions, we have created an interactive on line experience where the user can engage with each piece. This works particularly well for the paper crafts as users can zoom in to view the fine details or control the leafing of the set of “chinese paper cuttings” to appreciate their delicate texture.
The central piece of work on the site is “dress 09”, a piece produced by Mario Schwab in collaboration with Gallant. Using 360° photography, the piece is displayed in an interactive animation which shows a full rotation the dress.
Besides the interactive pieces there is is lots more to enjoy on the site – video, audio and PDF downloads.
The process has been a highly enjoyable one and one which we hope will evoke and inspire appreciation and interest in crafts.
